Review of 2013

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen it’s that time again when we look back over the past year and listen to some of the fine music from the progressive genre that has surfaced over the past 12 months. We have managed to assemble a show of just over 12 hours with 71 different artists and 71 different albums. Not a show that pretends to bring you the best albums of the year, we all have our opinions on the best albums of the year, but it does showcase the range and quality of the music that we are fortunate to hear from the great bands of the genre. Some of the top names are
not
here, I can hear screams and howls of derision as albums by Dream Theater, Ayreon, BJH and Fish are not featured, and on reflection of this I am leaving tomorrow for a small bothy in the Scottish Highlands to avoid the wrath of the fans of these artistes. Never mind I say, the big names are represented by Spocks Beard, Riverside, Steven Wilson, Moon Safari and Big Big Train and the veterans by Deep Purple, but there are a whole host of less well known bands that have come up with some corking music throughout 2013.

Just a word to say that there are four tracks which were released right at the end of 2012 and missed last years show but have been included now and are thus marked (
2012
), these are albums by Nine Stones Close, Lo Fi Resistance, The Minstrel’s Ghost and Shadow Circus and very fine CDs they are too. The play list is included here, but that is just in alphabetical order of artist and Mr. Progmaster (Darran) is going to play the show with SAM on random play, so you don’t know what’s coming up in what order ha ha !! And if anybody is interested, my favourite album of the year is by Comedy Of Errors, however the standard is so high and there are a host of other albums just a millimetre behind. Please post your opinions of the year in general and your favourite albums, and if they are by Dream Theater, Ayreon, BJH or Fish then I’m sorry and I’m leaving soon for Corrour Bothy in the heart of the Cairngorms !!!!

The show will be broadcast on the following days and times (British Time)

* Sunday 22nd December at 8.00 PM
* Tuesday 24th December (Xmas Eve) at 6.00 PM
* Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) at 3.00 PM
* Saturday 28th December at 6.00 PM

Hope you can catch some of the show at some time over Christmas and may I wish you Seasons Greetings.  Smiley

Please let me be the first to say "thanks !" in advance for putting this show together, Mick. Excellent stuff indeed ! As I'm sure that all of the listeners will already agree, your broadcasts are extremely popular and a welcome "injection" of fresh, new music. This round-up of the year looks like it's going to be a real treat.

Thanks again !
