Say Dee -
Do you perhaps have the bootleg Supper's Ready (from Invisible Live in Montreal '74) ?
If not, I do & would be happy to share it with you (ftp) -  (sound is quite good)

-Hm

The best live version I have has to be from Archives - Volume I. By all means ftp the Montreal recording, thanks HM.

Consider it done Dee!  Wink

The reason I like this recording is that, while not technically perfect, Peter's vocal performance is more dramatic - maybe over the top slightly - but clearly he's having fun - Phil's vocal is more up front - and Hackett is truly inspired - You gotta hear this version of Firth of Fifth!  This was an FM broadcast 21 April 1974 - I'll try to get the rest of it to you soon - A crazy version of Battle of Epping Forest ! Plus Peter's little stories between tracks en Francais (!) - Enjoy  Cool

On the topic of music that's playing.  Did you find "looking for someone" on Foxtrot or on Trespass?

BTW the sound on your station is great!

OK, this is a real stretch....

In honor of the passing of the Crocidile Hunter....

Any chance you have Australia by Steve Howe..  If you do have it on Beginnings, then you must follow it with Doors of Sleep, of course!

I wish I could oblige, really. Undecided

I have 'Beginnings' on vinyl and have been meaning to either rip-it to mp3 or get around to buying a copy of the album on CD. So apologies, not today.

However, in honour of Steve 'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin, I'm going to play the track 'Leader' from early-seventies Australian Prog group Buffalo. Cool

Enjoy.

Hi Dee:

As you might remember I have had a bugger trying to get the station at work - Windows Media seems the only way to go here - I've tried all the proxy settings and nothing seemed to work until today.  I feel kind of dumb that I never tried the dial-up  button on the Startup page. It worked!
Well the sound isn't....well..stellar - but anything is an improvement!

All that to say this - I'm going to have to make up some ground with requests  Wink

You are probably not up at this hour - but if you are - Do you have any Family you could play - or if not, how about The Barbarian by ELP?

If you can't get to it tonight - perhaps in the morning (4:00 - 5:00 in the evening for you)

I'll be listening the next hour or two.

Thanx  Cool

Don;

You may want to try www.jetaudio.com . Huh

They have a free player  Grin which I use at work  Wink, quite successfully I might add,  Smiley behind a firewall  Smiley, with no tweaking to the standard settings  Smiley.  I connect to the high bandwith stream quickly  Smiley, with no buffering really at all during my listening time  Smiley, and listen for many hours straight through without any interruption  Smiley.  The player is very small, easy user interface, and requires little memory to operate.  Basically, it gets the job done and is not a pig about it at all, and plays basically all audio, and video formats.

Highly recommended.  Smiley

Quite stellar indeed!

Thanks Steven - unfortunately the player is the problem - The company will not allow me to load any software to my PC - so I'm forced to use what they've got - namely Windows Media 10 - It's alright, just have to skip back & forth to website to find out what's playing Undecided

I've got Winamp at home - so no problem there (just finding the time Wink

Thx again,

You do a STELLAR job, even without the requests.. but if your bored and looking for something different --  maybe a hour or so "live set" from the 70's                     ( Yes, Genesis, ELP. ELO, Floyd, etc.).

Something about the live versions that really make each one unique.  Cool

If you wanted to play this between,  oh, I don't know..  let's say now and the next 8 hours we could certainly rock the house as I jam you via the office music system.   Employee productivity has skyrocketed since I found this STELLAR site!   Wink

I understand.

Personally, I think Jet Audio is better than Winamp and much more user friendly.

If you get a chance give it a spin and let me know what you think.

So I'm currently listenning to this Maneige track that is on (Les Aventures De Saxinette Et Clarophone) and I will admit, it is pretty good.

This past weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the first Montreal Progressive Music Festival (www.fmpm.net) comprised of several local bands, an american band, and the legendary Hatfield and the North (sadly, without drummer Pip, of Gong fame, who passed away recently). The festival was openned by Jérôme Langlois (of Maneige) who, and it pains me to say this, put on one of the worst shows I have ever seen. The compositions were mostly juvenile or derivative (or both) and often self indulgeant. The musicianship was astonishing, don't get me wrong, the man can play the clarinet (and the floutest was AMAZING) but the show was just flat. Not an iota of emotion went into the music, and the music itself wasn't interesting enough to capture my attention without the emotion to back it up. Now I know I sound like a total snob, and I'm probably starting some kind of fire here, but if Mr. Langlois decides to either play in your town, or put out another recording, please lower your expectations or you will be dissapointed. It does not live up to the earlier Maneige recordings.

Also, if my piano teacher ever caught me playing a piano like that, she'd slap my wrists with a ruler.

ok, so enough ranting. Hatfield and the North is INCREDIBLE. OMG!! So Incredible!!!! It was amuzing, though, how the keyboardist would run off the stage after each song that didn't go perfectly, probably to go calm himself down. Just such a tight and unique band. Check 'em out if you don't know 'em.

Here is how ... and this is an Excellent Idea for everybody (hint, hint!).  I'd donate today also if I weren't dirt poor at the moment.   Undecided

On the Main Page - the one which lists recently played and currently playing songs ...

Scroll down until you see the Visa/MasterCard logo ...

Click ...

It brings up a new page where you fill in the amount you want to donate and your name, address, etc. ...

Done!

NOTE:  Assuming you live in the U.S., the exchange rate for US to UK is approximately $1.70.  If you live outside of the U.S., there are bound to be lots of web sites that will figure out exchange rates for you.

After talking about Il Volo, my dad talked to me about this:

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=2387

Peter and the wolf prog style ! Must for your collection Dee if you dont allready have it !

The MP3 sample there is interesting. And the 'time machine song' is interesting to!

Fun facts:

Brian Eno is the Wolf!!!!!!

And Phil collins collaborated into the making of this album

There you go, enjoy

I'll reply to that one Max. I played the whole disk in a past session. It's a great album - got it on CD and Vinyl!
Check out the thread (bottom of the first page)  - I think I used the same Progarchives link as you.

Jeff, I agree. This would be a good way to end the work week.     It is now 1:40GMT so anytime you can play this Dee would be appreciated.

P.S.  When is the 24-48 hour Pink Floyd marathon happening? Any Clues yet?

Perhaps some good Australian Prog music from "The Church" could be played.

I know I haven't heard any of them yet on here and I listen everyday at work and on the weekends at home.

Hi tux,

All of the above groups feature on S.A. on any given day, except for Taurus, Kayak and Saga. But as you've probably already noticed, I buy CDs every month and am constantly expanding the playlist. Cool

Hey Dee:

Another boring Saturday at work Undecided - I notice you've played Stop That by Peter Banks in the past - any chance you could play Get out of My Fridge from the same album (two sides of) - believe Hackett is on that track (tho I'd have to look at my LP at home)

Hello DC and to all here listening!

I've never requested my hometown band before.
But!, since I haven't heard any of Kansas in many years, I'd like to request
"Narnia" from Steve Hackett, and maybe if you can, some Kansas "Lonely Street",
"Mysteries and Mayhem", "Pinnacle", and "Magnum Opus".--It's kind of older stuff, but, it's quite good.--Like to hear some Steve Walsh before his voice went.--Brent

Hey Dee,

I just found out that they have remastered and re-released 4 albums (CDs) from a British Ambient /Prog band called   'Jade Warrior'.    Was wondering if you had anything by them to play here?  In case you may want to check them out, you can go here for some .wav samples.

Do you have Frank Zappa "One Size Fits All"? in the library?--Side 2 is best, but it's all good!!--Or any FZ!!

Or maybe Uriah Heap "Salisbury"?

"Supper's Ready", in any fashion, besides Phil Collins version, always good anytime too!!

Otherwise, I'll just sit back and listen to all good stuff now!!
Got to play clean up my place now, so, I'll be here for a bit!!--Brent--Thanks!!

Having seen both Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett play Montreal (albeit, on separate occasions) I can vouch that they are truly inspired when they play here.

Also, that live version of Tubular Bells that is playing right now. Wow! When is that from???

Ethos is nice. Sounds a bit like Camel.

Which reminds me that I found something nice last night when zapping on my TV.
The Electric Proms on BBC2 broadcasted a registration of "The Good, the Bad and the Queen"
The nearest match to how that sounded for me was a crossover between Camel and The Nits (a Dutch band)
Defenitely worth a listen or two.

I may sound hars, but I personally cannot imagine anything worse.

unless, of course, you count Eno's Music for Assisted Suicide, I mean for Airports......

Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy), though it's not as ambient sounding as the material you are referring to I believe, is really a chef d'oeuvre of the art rock genre!  It's a must album from Eno Wink

Thanks for playing Pussy Willow this evening - I haven't heard it for quite a long time.

Might I be so bold to ask for an other Tull song: My God from the album Aqualung would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best wishes to you and all S.A. listeners.

Hi there Brent,

I've recently bought a couple of CDs by the Alan Parson's Project. They will be added to one of the new playlists.

Enjoy.

It is by now quite obvious that my request to ban Radiohead won't find vertile ground.
Can I then at least ask to play it only between 21:00 and 07:00 MET ? Please?
Otherwise I feel forced to start scripting again.

Hi there Tux,

Just goes to show, you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time ... Roll Eyes

By all means share your views with regards to what is played here at S.A. I think it's very obvious from your previous posts that you don't like Radiohead but I have no plans to take them off of any given playlist. I'm a fan of theirs and I don't see listeners tuning-out in droves when they are played. In any event, Radiohead make up a very small proportion of the music featured here. There are a lot of other listeners who enjoy a particular Progressive Rock act but not another. Just taking a cursory look through the posts on the forum here will show that (and in doing so, anyone will see that there is more of a debate going on as to whether Brian Eno hits anywhere even close to the 'Prog Target'  Wink. Again, a lot of listeners love him and a lot really, really, cannot stand him).

I try and pool together as many diverse groups and artists that I can that fall (albeit, sometimes remotely) under the genre of 'Prog' and this makes the musical 'style' on any given day at S.A. so different and versatile.

I'm going to have to recommend the 'mute' button (or a script), I'm afraid.

Hi Tux,

I think that by now everyone on the forum knows that you dislike Radiohead.
OK, they are not my favourite band either - but this is a radio station and it's made for many listeners with similar but not identical musical taste. I think we should accept that there are others who like different flavours of prog and this station is also made for them.

I think Dee is doing an extraordinarily good job and the program of SA is an extremely fine blend of all sorts of prog. So Dee, please keep on your excellent work.
And here a recommendation to you TUX: when Radiohead is playing why not use the time for other important things like going to the cellear to get the next beer or going for a pee ....
And when you come back the sun will be shining again.  Smiley

Have fun,

ORION

It might sound strange, but in fact it was acompliment.
For me, so far, Radiohead was the only band I dislike (very much). And it's not even for their music, but I just can't stand Thom York's voice. I indeed use the stop button on beep-media-player.
The thing is though, that if the general quality of what you hear is so damn good, the odd one out that one does not like really stands out and annoys more than it should, whils when the station one is (forced to) be listening to only plays medicre and bad stuff, bad things don't stand out.

Just curious. If I decide to indeed start scripting, would you be interested in the results?
Or even willing to cooperate if I heve special requests?

I promise. I won't complain anymore about Radiohead, but please don't overdo it Smiley

Hi Tux,

I know that you're also very complimentary about the music played here at S.A., so don't worry, I do take it as a compliment. If anything, it shows that you're passionate about music which can only be a good thing. Cool

As I hope you already know, I'm always more than happy to take requests. Smiley

In the meantime, rest assured that I have no plans for a twenty-four hour Radiohead session just yet ... Wink

Hey there!

I've got a link to the broadcast on my new Blog, so I'm listening almost all the time while I'm editing away.  This station is fantastic.
I think I even heard a shout out with my name in it...  I was in the other room making lunch, but I'm pretty sure I heard it.  Thrilled!

Anyway, the next time someone's feeling the urge to play a little Floyd (which is a lot, I know!), I've got a hankering for some "Fearless" off of meddle... Granted... if it's from the album cut, or live, or an endless jam track... well... it's all good.

I'm not sure if it's the Floyd, or the Liverpool Kopites that I'm really wanting to hear right now... but that track has both, so it's all good.

Cheers,

I really enjoyed the 1976 Tull from Montreux the other day. Where did you find that recording ? I've looked all over the dc++ groups to no avail.

Keep up the good work !

I love Zappa, Tull, Henry Cow, Gentle Giant, Robert Wyatt, Hector Zazou, Slapp Happy, Gong, Tangerine Dream, King Crimson.

Thanks,
BB

Not sure if you've got this one but how about adding WishboneAsh - Phoenix from their Live Dates Vol 1 to your excellent playlist. One of the best live tracks around.

Hi,

How about some Jean-Michel Jarre ?

Not heard any of his stuff on SA.

A Sunday newspaper (in the UK) was giving away "Oxygene" today ! - haven't heard that in ages - due to it being on vinyl ! Hence the inspiration for the request !

Cheers,

Jim
