Hi guys.

As I've said before, I don't really know that much about Prog Rock... So, show me a list of bands and I may get the idea...lol

Now, Pink Floyd.  Love their music but don't know all that much about them.  I've never actually got around to studying their history, band members etc.  Just love their music

Love 'The Wall' - film and music
But favourite song has to be 'Wish you were here'

Favourite Lyrics - 'We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl...year after year'

So, what do you all think of them.  Can you guys tell me any of their history (ok...I'm too lazy to go look up online...lol).  I know they've had different lead singers, have heard their names but can't remember...and get the distinct inpression that there are different schools of thought as to who is the best singer (or influence)

Oh,  little bit of namedropping here...lol...

Living in Jersey, I completed an adult evening course at our local college in Art GCSE back in the 90's....
my teacher informed us that when she studyed in Uk, her class would have guest tutors....GERALD SCARF being one of them.  Don't know if I spelt his name right...but isn't he the artist who done a lot of work for 'The Wall'?

Ok......over to you guys

Wow.....just gone to the site you posted the link to D.C and found out that Marillion is classed as neo-prog rock

I love my Marillion....namely 'Misplaced Childhood'...not really heard much of their other stuff.  And it's Fish I love as vocals (though I've not heard the new guy)

So.....guess I might start a post about Marillion then..lol

Nice one Star !!  Cheesy

Amongst others, I play the entire 'Misplaced Childhood' album on the station ... Not much in the way of 'Fish' at the moment but I will have to get my hands on some of his tunes soon.

Have you listened to any early 'Genesis', before Phil Collins took over as lead singer ? Very similar sound and often compared to each other. Loads of early Genesis tracks on the station - be sure to check it out, I reckon you'll love it. Wink

Hi Star

Just noticed this post. You really must check out the latest Marillion album 'Marbles' with the 'new guy'. The new guy being Steve Hogarth who has been in the band since 1989! Believe me you will not be dissapointed. (I also have it on good authority from my wife that he is very hot Shocked whatever that means)

If there is anything you want to know about this fantastic band, who are still going from strength to strength (and progressing), then just ask me or visit thier web site at www.marillion.com.

Hi. try some Camel, also Emerson Lake and Palmer's first album. Then try Relayer by Yes. Thats my advice anyway. Happy listening. Oh, with regard to the history of Pink Floyd I suggest you buy a copy of Inside Out ny Nick Mason. It is very informative and very funny, plus it's in paperback now. Happy reading.

Hi Star,

Yes for me, the greatest one !

Musically in a esthetic way for
Gilmour
and its incredible sounds with its strato. No equals in the world i think.

And what a shiver to try to play whith him with my Marshall and my Strato, in my cellar ... Wink
Not for the neighbors I'm afraid ...

For
Wright
for this incredible work on analogic synths , especially on Wish you where here, have you notice how much this piece of synths naps are incredible , and the work there is behind that ?

Probably here the top of its art ... Difiicult to be better after that ...

For
Mason
during all the life of the group his incredible style, what a wonderful and secure base for the 3 others ...

And of course
Waters
my "spiritual father" I don't know if we can say that in english, but in french this is the way to describe how a person get into influence in your life.

It was a great moment to see them together again during the live 8 show ...

For me 4 albums are at the top of their art :

- Wish you where here

- Animals

- Dark side of the moon

- The Wall

I have heard very much of PF, live, new and old.

I've not heard any PF(Atom Heart Mother) live.

Does anyone here know anything of this?---I needs to know.
