The Pineapple Thief Woods Wine Bar, Yeovil 8/1/05
The venue is more like a wide corridor with a bar down part of one side and the stage isn't so much a stage as opposed to a step at one end. Into these humble surroundings step a band destined for big things. As reference points to the type of music The Pineapple Thief play, there are hints of Radiohead, Coldplay and Porcupine Tree. Strong melodies and catchy choruses mingle with lengthy spacey instrumental workouts.
They played a varied selection of old and new songs, but tha bulk of the set comprised of material from their latest (and 4th) album '12 Stories Down'
Up until now The Pineapple Thief have made a limited number of live appearances and this was noticable on a couple of nervous occasions (thingy-ups!). For which singer/guitarist Bruce Soord apologised. But this didn't detract from an otherwise excellent performance. This was the perfect low key event for a band still learnng their trade in front of an audience. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and friendly banter between band and crowd.
From what I remember, here's the set list:
Sooner or Later
Clapham
Kid Chameleon
The World I Always Dreamed Of
Keep Dreaming
I Will Light Up Your Eyes
Prey For Me
It’s You And Me
Part Zero
Start Your Descent
Vapour Trails
From Where You’re Standing
We Subside
Bloody excellent, and a free gig in a glorified pub as well.
Hopefully a couple more gigs are to be fitted in before they support Marillion in March.
