Richard Wright passes away at 65
15th Sep, 2008 at 6:45pm

It came as a huge surprise to me to read (just a few hours ago) that Rick Wright, keyboard player and founding member of Pink Floyd, has passed away at the age of 65 due to a short battle with cancer.

Sad news for the entire prog rock community.
RIP Richard Wright

We could do a Richard Wright marathon at SA in memory of this great musician. Just an idea.

In the vain hope that the family reads here too, my condoleances.
A great loss.
May the great spirits be with him.
I count myself amongst the lucky ones that have seen him play life in Rotterdam.

Just logged on to find out here on SA about Richard Wright's death. I suppose I'd really rather hear about it first here than anywhere else; this is the appropriate place, for me at least.

Richard Wright would definitely qualify as an influence on me! I'm almost shocked, certainly surprised.

Been playing Pink Floyd most of the day (Ummagumma, DSOtM, WYWH).
Is there a way to bump up the frequency of Floyd on Stellar for the next day or two?

Short battle with cancer? So it was something pretty aggressive, then?

There is little information available as to how Richard exactly passed but from the reports that I have read, it appears to have been relatively sudden.

A very poignant quote from the front page of David Gilmour's website ...

"No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend. In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten."

One of Rick's last perfomance, at the Royal Albert Hall. We will miss you Rick!

Wearing the inside out

"...And with these words I can hear,
Clear through the clouds that covered me.
Just give it time then speak my name
Now we can hear ourselves again..."

Most definitely, Darran. Especially the Wright solo material, which I haven't heard before. For instance, "Holiday", a wonderful, wistful pop track.
