Penguin Cafe Orchestra
20th Dec, 2007 at 4:33pm

We had the great good fortune to get tickets for what is almost certainly the last ever Penguin Cafe Orchestra concert. It took place last Thursday (Dec 13th) at The Union Chapel, Islington (North London), a simply wonderful setting. This was the last of three concerts commemorating the death of founder Simon Jeffes 10 years ago.

We were treated to 2 1/2 hours of the most delicate and blissful music, played with all the care and reverence that it deserved. 11 musicians including Simon's partner at the time of his death, Helen Liebman (Cello), Annie Whitehead (Trombone), Jennifer Maidman (Guitars), Geoffrey Richardson (Viola and everything else you could thing of) and Simons son, Arthur (Harmonium, Percussion, Ukelele) recreated the quirky, atmospheric and gentle music created by Simon Jeffes and sent us all out into the London winters night in silent awe. Unforgettable!!
