Steve Hogarth @ Riffs Bar, Swindon.
October 1st 2006

The Steve Hogarth show was absolutely brilliant. He really was in fine voice. The venue only held about 150 I think and was sold out. If you were more than a few metres from the front it was impossible to see him, as the stage was low and he of course was sat down at the piano throughout. My wife (Julie) and I were fortunate enough to be close enough to see. However it was very, very hot that evening and at one point I thought Julie was going to faint. Which she assures me was due to the heat and not the closeness to Mr h Smiley

The highlight of the evening was his performance of Living With The Big Lie. Such power, passion and emotion: this is not something you can fake, especially when this close to an audience. This is one of my favourite songs from Brave and it was wonderful to hear it in this stripped down form.

It was a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Steve chatted and joked with the crowd throughout the evening, telling stories and reading extracts from his diary and also taking requests, although his attempt at Go! lasted only a few bars.

It seems ages since I last saw Marillion and seeing h has got me looking forward even more to next years convention in Holland and also the new album.

OK here is the set list. As you can see, there are a few covers in there.

I have just added to my original post the name of the original artist of the cover versions.

Ocean Cloud was wonderful. Not the whole 17 minute version, just the first few verses and chorus. It was just him and a piano remember.

As one of my favourite songs of recent years, any info as to how this is performed live is appreciated. Wink

I would go to a Marillion gig just to hear it. Cool
