Title: Dream Theater & Mike Portnoy
Post by Oldrocker on 11th Sep, 2010 at 8:35am
I heard yesterday that Mike Portnoy, the founder & leader of Dream Theater is to leave the band.
The other guys will carry on & start recording the new album next year.

I must say that it was through Mike Portnoy's mention on www.drummerworld.com that I became aware of Dream Theater & thence to all the other great bands he's been associated with.

I think the band will miss him.
Here's a link to Dream Theater's website that has more info : www.dreamtheater.net

I'm getting a chance to see him in October - which I'm really looking forward to - he's playing with Avenged Sevenfold !
I'll probably feel dead old at that gig !!!!

Cheers,

Jim

I'm surprised to see all the 'sad' faces.  Remember folks, he's not sick, he's just changing jobs.  A job he's had for a quarter century.  This is no biggy.  Aren't you excited to see what he's going to do next?

There's an optimist !!

But you're right Dean .. he'll undoubtedly get involved with another amazing prog project.

Hopefully though Dream Theater will find another amazing drummer to be able to carry on.

Like ... Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, OSI and Avenged Sevenfold.

Sounds as if Portnoy has been enjoying himself with these side projects more than he has with Dream Theater lately and that is a factor in him leaving DT.

Mick, my point exactly.  The happiest guy in all of this is Mike Portnoy!  So, why are we sad then?
