I Dee,

Is the chat feature regulary used ?

It seems that this is not working from my Ubuntu station ... :'( :'( :'( :'(

Hi there pno,

What's the exact nature of your problem ?

You should be fine running under a Linux distro. as you'll more than likely have Java installed by default.

In the meantime, check the Chat Room Guide.

I'm allways logged in there as Tux and Tux32. Not allways physically present though.

Did you try xchat?
I hav OpenSUSE, not ununtu, but all distro's seem to come with at least one working IRC client. Other options are irsii, konversation, or seamonkey-irc (chat from withing FireFox/Mozilla)
