Title: Prog Christmas Music
Post by Groovinpict on 1st Dec, 2006 at 6:53pm
Since the season is here, I thought I would ask this.  Everyone has heard ELP's Christmas song...I was just wondering if any other prog acts have done Christmas music? I can't think of any but then again, I can't claim to have heard them all anyway.

Hi there Groovinpict,

Songs that spring to mind are ...

'Christmas Song' - Jethro Tull

'In Dulci Jubilo' - Mike Oldfield

'I Believe In Father Christmas' - Greg Lake

'Three Ships' (entire album) - Jon Anderson

Another track that certainly has a 'Christmassy Feel' (to me anyway) is 'Run With The Fox' by Chris Squire and Alan White.

Expect to hear them on the S.A. playlist very soon ... 8-)

Dee - I've got Pan Dance (instr.) by Tull that/s rather Christmasy ...also I've got that 45 single by Can of Silent Night (Instr.)
If I could just borrow a bloody phonograph to transfer it :-/

All of the above mentioned songs are great choices!!

I'd like to add JT's Christmas record.
I haven't heard any of it, but, I hear that it is quite good!!-----Brent

Has anyone heard the Trans-Siberian Orchstra?
Their stuff is very Progish & is quite excellent.

Hi.

What about "Run with the fox" by Chris Squire and Alan White, it often gets a play on radio 2 round about this time of year.

Cheers.

Indeed, it'll be played closer to the time. 8-)

My personal favourite, although not prog, is December - All About Eve. A more beautiful song you'll be lucky to find.

OK, not really a Christmas song either. Still I think it just sneaks in. :)

My fav is JA's  3 Ships.

I've made copies and have given them to family and friends over the last several years.

Everyone always loves it.

A group called Ten Point Ten produced a Christmas album called "12/25" about 5 years ago. "He Is Born" is a prog standout regardless of the season.  The rest of the album is a prog fan's dream as well.  This gets heavy play in my car in December.
