Title: M I N I MARATHON
Post by Heracleum Mantegazziani on 23rd Sep, 2006 at 1:38am
Hello There ProgHeads:

First of all thanks to Silver for his most recent and excellent session!! 8-)

For those of you who remember the many 24 hr marathons of one single artist that SA has put on in the past - this will be kind of a twist on that idea.
On Friday the 29th I will be hosting a Mini Marathon consisting of Six (6) Blocks of tracks by Six different artists - About 15 (give or take) tracks each.

Unlike previous sessions I will tell you exactly which artists they are, and in what order.

1. GENESIS (Which will contain the afore mentioned MONTREAL 74 concert)
2. GENTLE GIANT
3. JETHRO TULL
4. BRAND X
5. FRANK ZAPPA
6. PETER GABRIEL

There should  be an interesting variety of tracks, some live bits and some surprises!

The Re-run schedule will be as follows:

Friday 29th Sep @ 9:00pm (GMT)

Sunday 1st Oct @ 6:00pm (GMT)

Monday 2nd Oct @ 3:00pm (GMT)

Wednesday  4th Oct @ 2:00am (GMT)

Thursday 5th Oct @ 11:00am (GMT)

Hope to see you all there!!  ;)

Sure thing Huntr! Don't know what else I could tell you - I've tried to include not only some of my favouite tracks from each artist, but also some outtakes, b-sides and live tracks (each artist will have some live selections) I've mentioned the Montreal 74 concert from Genesis (the whole thing), there's also a few tracks from Rome 72...The Frank Zappa section has a live version of 'My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama' from Boston 1968....
Hows that?

For Zappa let's not forget: Hot Rats and the inevitable Roxy and Elsewhere

The first not being really the most representative work but pretty much a classic imo and the second, well it's just crazy 8-)

I might have to agree with you if you were to include the Roxy and Elsewhere album (which is also represented) 8-)

Your well covered there Krimhead - Within a dozen or so tracks I've tried to represent both old & new - Peaches en Regalia is still one of my favouite tunes - since dee plays that one a bit, I've got the live version from Tinsletown in Rebellion.

Well, I didnt mention it because it is in the same era than the 2 other cd's i've talked about earlier.... I've listen  Weasels ripped my flesh and , exept for My guitar wants to kill you mama , this Cd is REALLY CRACKED.

Let say that Zappa was really instrumental and psychadelic in this album with songs like Dwarf Nebula Professional March & Dwarf Nebula and Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Sexually Aroused Gas Mask.....

Well Max - you've pidgeon-holed another of my favourite Zappa albums - there will definately be a track appearing from Weasels!! I agree - the live stuff on that album is pretty wild - I love the disonance.

Thanks Krimhead! Sorry I got the Concert from a friend so I have no idea what the cover looks like, The album is called Invisible Live & also contains some tracks from London (i.e. the Get 'em Out By Friday later in the block) I do remember back in the day the concert (and many others) was on Swinging Pig Records.  For more info:

http://radioguide.genesis-movement.org/index.html#x-21apr74

The Strawberry Fields track came from a two record set That I used to own called All this and World War II (on Mercury Records) which was the soundtrack to a very bizzare film in the late 70's that matched World War II Footage to Beatles Covers (!) For more info:

P.S. Actually - truth be told - what I'm drinking is a coffee/chickory blend from New Orleans called 'Café du Monde' - very smooth!
