Title: >>FusiOn SessiOn<<
Post by Heracleum Mantegazziani on 25th May, 2006 at 2:22am
Well folks, it looks like a good season of sessions coming up!!

Starting with this one  :D

The session will be broadcast at the following times:

Friday 26th - 9:00pm (GMT)

Sunday 28th - 7:00pm (GMT)

Wednesday 31st - 4:00pm (GMT)

The session is kind of a first for me!  The tunes played will not be your traditional Prog fare, though it will contain alot of music similar to my last two sessions - but with more of a Jazz/Rock/Funk emphasis.

That is not to say that everything played with be totally textbook Fusion - there will be rockin' stuff, funky stuff, electric stuff, acoustic stuff, mellow stuff and as you might have guessed. . . . . .wierd stuff!

[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Keep an open mind (& ears) and I think you'll hear something you like!

Enjoy!!

-Hm

[smiley=DJ.gif]

P.S. Forgot to mention...the entire session will be programmed randomly by computer...so not even I will know the ultimate track order! Its kind of an experimental thing...hope it works! (sounded good on the ipod!!)

My pleasure YC!

I'm quite anxious to see how HAL, ..um.. I mean SAM (the broadcast software) mixes the session.  Should be interesting.

FYI - more info on what exactly FUSION is (and is not), here are some interesting links:

Thanks GFTO77!  I'm amazed how well SAM is picking the tunes!  For those of you who might have had a problem getting thru Miles or Arild Andersen (they are 2 of the more 'out there' tunes  on the show today) - More mainstream stuff ahead !

I think !

I can honestly say there were so many that picking out one or two would be difficult. Always nice to hear Mr.Holdsworth, of course..he always stands out. Cobham, Al DiMeola,Bruford plus lots of music I hadnt heard before. A lot of nice stuff that was Prog meets Fusion.

I was just sitting here enjoying it immensely. I'll always be looking out for your sets from now on.

Cheers. :)

Yup, SAM can do just about anything ...consider it done mate. 8-)

For today's run I loaded the playlist three times and then randomised it, so, as you pointed out HM, tracks can literally end up anywhere in the list ... ::)

Actually it's less work for me too!

To Me, the hardest part of putting a session together seems to be a matter of which tracks to put where & which to keep & which to omit.

This way all I have to do is pick all the tracks I want & let SAM do the rest.

Here's to slothdom! ;)

Absolutely !!

Without a doubt, one of the hardest aspects of compiling a session of any kind, whether it's a 'regular playlist' or a special playlist dedicated to a particular group, finding the 'best' running order can be a nightmare. The amount of time it takes me just to compile a 'regular' playlist here on S.A. is, well ... a long time !! Tracks are cut and pasted to a different order in the running, listened to, additional tracks added or taken away, listened to again (and again !!). :-/

With regards to HM's 'Fusion Session' - hats off to SAM !! Personally, I found that his choice worked extremely well on both the recent runs of the session. Here's looking to today's run. 8-)

..and again I have to say - It's my pleasure!  I didn't really expect this session to be as popular as it's turned out to be!  Some of the music is on the fairly esoteric side (ok . . let's say wierd)  I love Prog, but I also find alot of improvised music - be it jazz or whatever - really sparks my interest.
It's the creativity & originality of Progressive Music that I really enjoy.  Right now, I have my Ipod on shuffle & am jotting notes as what to include next time! (I'm obsessed! ;))

Big gratz on the excellent session HM! :)

Listening to Frank Zappa brought back some childhood memories!  er...should I continue with this?? :P

Hehe...a mate of mine had an older brother who had like everything Zappa had done up till that point and we used to sneak into his bedroom and nick some vinyl and listen to it when he wasn't around.  Let's just say it was an education and a half!!  I was about 14 at the time I think...

My session is ready to go and is just waiting to be scheduled in.  Just a 2 hour session to begin with, but I will tell you more once the scheduling has been sorted out. :D
