Post by ProgMaster on 5th Dec, 2005 at 11:19pm
All,

This coming Friday 9th December starting at 9:00pm (GMT) we will be broadcasting a session compiled by our very own Heracleum Mantegazziani.

It will feature a simply huge selection of the finest Progressive Rock - many tracks which have never before been played on S.A..

Looking good !! 8-)

::) Well. . . . . . Since we were on the heels of a Yes Marathon, I didn't include any Yes per say...  But what I can tell you is there will be two unusual Yes Covers - and one song with a member of Yes in a supporting role

...actually Yes Chikki, make that TWO songs with past or present members of Yes included and ONE solo track!

To address Everyone....Dee said it very well in his introduction -  there will not only be tracks not heard on SA before,  it was my primary intention to find  1) tracks by familiar artists not played  here before and 2) tracks by artists or groups that perhaps you've never heard of.  I will in fact be pushing the boundries of Prog a bit here and there, (some of you will think I've fallen over the edge! ) ;)
I mainly hope you will hear some music that you've never heard before and hopefully enjoy!!
The session will begin with a (excuse me for this) Modest Mini Mellotron Marathon followed by two smaller mini marathons featuring two popular Prog groups, and then a larger dose of miscellaneous prog of all sizes and shapes!!  I hope you hang around for most of it.  The entire session is about 12 hrs - which will be repeated once.
Let me know if you have any questions before or during the session or just let me know what you think!

Cheers

HM  ;D

'Tis a surprise!  Hunter . . . but knowing the first section is devoted to the Mellotron, I'll bet you can deduce who some of the groups might be - though I have added a few out of the ordinary selections!  ;)

I will tell you that the second section will consist of two mini marathons of popular prog groups who's leaders both play the flute. ::)

After that will be a rollercoaster of different groups & styles - some familiar and some not - but all falling within the realm of Prog (in M H O)  ;D

enjoy!

Or is this session going to be a surprise? 8-)

The last section after the one's I described previous are going to be a bit of a surprise - I tried, though to vary the styles & groups so it doesn't dwell on one type of prog for too long before switching. I hope I'm successful at that.  [smiley=happy.gif]

I'll let you all be the judge of that!

So long as you realise that you have to donate $50 to charity for every complaint SA gets!  ;D

It'll be alright on the night. As someone once said.

                                 ;D
(sorry I couldn't resist)

...but apart from what's already been said in this thread...I can tell you that a couple of songs that are on the playlist now happen to be in the session as well..but with company.  That would be Sleeping for Years by Atomic Rooster (plus another track from them in the session) and Checkmate by Gryphon (plus ditto)

AND...
...you've read that there are songs that contain Yes bandmates in various forms.  You will also find tracks that contain miscellaneous alumni of such groups as Gong, Frank Zappa and Genesis .
;)

My pleasure, Yes Chikki!  For those of you unfamiliar with the Calif. Guitar Trio, that was none other than Tony Levin playing Bass with them = some members were also in Robert Fripp's League of Crafty Guitarists...hence the King Crimson connection on  Zundoko Bushi

I like that.  Hears to pushing the boundries around! ;)
