Post by ProgMaster on 8th Feb, 2005 at 1:36am
The next '24 Hour Session', here on SA, will feature the group 'Genesis'. This will be held soon (within a couple of weeks or so) and I've already started to compile the playlist ...

If there is any particular track you would like included in this 'Session', please feel to post here.

If I haven't got it, I will try my best to find it !!  ;D

Cheers for now.

I think there is possibly one Mike+Mechanics track worthy of inclusion and that is 'Silent Running' from their first album. Simply a great song.

And don't forget Steve Hackett of course. Plenty of quality music there to choose from.

One old Genesis track I would love to hear is 'Twilight Alehouse". It was the b side to 'I know what I like'. Fantastic track that I can't believe never made it onto an album. I know I have said piece of vinyl, but don't know if it's available in digital format.

Have it on digital format already (imported CD compilation) and it has been on the playlist in the past. Fantastic tune that will certainly be there on the night !!  ;D

It seems that most bands at some point do a BBC session. Genesis were no exception, do you have any of these recordings?

The band themselves seem to  ignore the first album 'From Genesis To Revelation' but there are some good songs on it. 'Where The Sour Turns To Sweet' 'Silent Sun'.

Do you organise one mammoth 24hr session (an unenviable task) or a 12hr session played twice?

Hi Silver,

Yup, I have some BBC Sessions on an imported CD. I'll dig out the tracks I have and will let you know. They're around the 'Trespass' era if I remember correctly and I'm sure I've featured them on the playlist at some time.

I'm hoping for the playlist to be the full twenty four hours but I'm going to have to get back to you on that !!  :o

Cheers for now.

Hi All:

I just joined the Forum and enjoy your station.

I'm not sure what to request, but here are some ideas:

I quite enjoy Anthony Phillips albums and also Steve Hackett's, both of whom have quite an extensive collection of excellent and diverse albums. Hackett's Live Archive CDs are great and I really like Phillips' Private Parts & Pieces albums, all 10 of them. So, if you could integrate a few interesting items from the works of these original Genesis guitarists, I'm sure many would appreciate it.

I also suggest a few Brand X tracks featuring Phil, such as on Unorthodox Behaviour or Product. They're more interesting than most of his regular solo stuff.

Mike's Smallcreep's Day is quite good and perhaps a track or two from Tony's solo albums, particularly instrumental tracks from A Curious Feeling would be nice.

Peter's film soundtrack albums are seldom heard, so perhaps a track or two from Birdy or Last Temptation of Christ. Peter's German versions of his 3rd and 4th albums are neat too.

As far as Genesis items, others seem to have suggested some good tracks. Perhaps digging into the 2 Archive box sets for some different tracks would be interesting.

You could also play a few tracks from the Spot the Pidgeon EP and some selections from the live Gabriel and Collins eras albums.

Of course, feel free to play some rare, unofficial, live concert tracks occasionally to keep things interesting.

What time zone are you in? I ask so I'll know when the 24 hour marathon will start. I'm in Toronto, in the Eastern North American time zone.

Thanks for your efforts.

Hi searcher and welcome to the forum !!

Excellent suggestions albeit at the eleventh hour ...  :o There will certainly be some 'Steve Hackett' solo material and I will do my best to get hold of some 'Anthony Phillips' (not sure if I have anything of his on file to be honest ...  ::) )

We're on 'GMT' here and the 'session' starts @ 9:00pm GMT. 'EST' is 'GMT -5' so, 4:00pm your time.

Thanks again !!

Dee

Thanks for the info about the start time of the marathon. Perhaps you should include that with the news item about it on your main site. I had assumed that it would start early in the morning.

Whatever you can play would be fine. I have almost, if not all of Anthony Phillips' albums digitized from LPs and CDs. The same is true with Steve Hackett. It would be interesting if these two collaborated on an album at some point. Its not likely, but who knows?

Looking forward to the Genesis overdose,

Chris

Early in the morning for me is the middle of the night for you, afternoon in Asia and evening in Australia. Such is the beauty of the world-wide-web I suppose and people from all corners of the globe do tune in.

We're a bit laid-back here at SA. The date of the 'Genesis Session' has already changed once, let alone the time. Anyway, I guess it could have been added to the news section.  ::)

As for advertising stream-rippers, well that's a no-no here I'm afraid. That and the advertising of file-sharing software. In any case, the vast majority of stream-rippers will automatically be kicked by the DNAS software if a connection is attempted.

We actively encourage purchasing music heard here (or elsewhere) via a legitimate source. If there's a specific tune you've heard, let me know or start a new thread requesting details.

Here's a starter for ten :-

Cheers for now.

Greetings! I am new, no kidding! ;)

Thank you, thank you THANK YOU for this marathon. I don't know if it's too late to put in a request. Some of my favorites have already been requested.  Either I missed or it wasn't mentioned, but I'd love to hear "Can-Utility and the Coastliners".  :)
Thanks again; I am enjoying the show!

Hi there 'Roan's Lady' - great to see you here !!

It's never too late to post a request !! Even if it had been played before, I would probably play it again ...

'Can Utility And The Coastliners' will come up after 'Visions Of Angels' - which is in about twenty-odd minutes in fact ...

Enjoy.

A few other suggestions:

Steve Hackett doing some classic Genesis as recorded on his Genesis Revisted and/or Tokyo Tapes albums and/or from the various Live Archive CDs.

A few tracks from the "Genesis for Two Hand Piano" album, such as Salmacis and/or Can Utility...

Are you planning to also include any unofficial rare live recordings in the mix?

Enjoying the show so far,

Dare I say it, I think I enjoyed that more than the Yes sessions. Maybe it's because I don't listen to Genesis as much as I do Yes, so I was reaquainted with some classics I hadn't heard in a while.  ;D

Who needs a P.R. department when you have a member of the forum like 'Roan's Lady' ??  ;D

Thanks for taking the time to sign-up 'Yesman'.

Indeed, yet another 'Yes Marathon' will be played in the next couple of weeks or so. Watch this space !!

Judging by the positive feedback of these 'special' sets of music, I hope to cobble together some more in the not-to-distant future. As usual, I'll update the news section of the forum as and when things occur.
