I know quite a few people on here (including Darran) are fans of Winamp. Here's an article explaining why it's not been updated for some time and what the future holds with its new owners Radionomy. http://tech.eu/features/771/radionomy-aol-winamp-future/

Many thanks for the post, Mick. Indeed, I was aware that both Winamp and Shoutcast had been bought out but wasn't too familiar with the specifics. Only to say that Shoutcast is still being developed with a number of releases being made over the past year or so. Indeed, Winamp is still a popular client for listeners when tuning-in to S.A. and has truly weathered the test of time, considering there hasn't been any real update nor release for Winamp for a while.

Hopefully, the new owners of both brands will take care of both of these popular suites of software.

If anybody is interested, I ran a report against the 128k MP3 Shoutcast server for the top ten listener's clients in the past thirty days :-

1. Winamp
2. Apple iTunes
3. VLC
4. Windows Media Player
5. MPlayer
6. Dalvik
7. Amarok
8. Lavf52.111.0
9. RealPlayer
10. Clementine

Umm Winamp the most popular, if it did go under I was thinking of switching to the Foobar audio player which is Windows only, no sign of that.

Well, it's only the past thirty days and as such, there's no guarantee that it'll be at the top of the list if I ran a report over another time-frame. In saying that, it does illustrate Winamp's popularity - especially considering it hasn't been updated in a month of Sundays which is very rare for an application. That and users are somewhat "loyal" to their chosen Media Player. I suppose it's a case of "whatever works for you". Hopefully, Winamp will still have a future yet, though.
