Hi Don - belated happy birthday !! Smiley

Requests were ...

Genesis - 'Return of the Giant Hogweed' by BCofOz (apart from being a wonderful song, I'm guessing it was PG singing your name that prompted this choice ... Wink )

Herbie Hancock - 'Watermelon Man' - via e-mail from Dan in the UK who said that he '... simply loves HM's sessions ...'

Genesis - 'Excerpts from 'The Lamb' - your's truly.

I hope that you had a good one !!

D

PS Let me know when you'd like to run your next session !!

Canterbury Scene Jazz Prog

Items from the Canterbury Scene in the jazzier mode would have to include Hatfield & The North, National Health, Egg, Matching Mole, Soft Machine and probably a few others. Khan (Steve Hillage & Dave Stewart) would probably be classed as Jazzy as well.

Hi there RR,

Indeed, a lot of the above mentioned groups are regularly featured on S.A. on any given day. However, DJ Heracleum Mantegazziani really is the 'Jazz / Fusion / Canterbury' Guru here. As stated above, another of his sessions will be with us soon ... Cool

In the meantime, an excellent resource regarding the various sub-genres of Progressive Rock, check out the following link :-

I think you've just proved your 'Guru' and 'Sage' credentials in that one reply HM ...

The 'Jazz Sage' reference I made above is taken directly from The Who's album 'Live At Leeds'

Pete Towshend - "We'd like to carry on now with a song originally recorded by Mo's Alison (sp ?) who's really a Jazz musician, although I did read something on one of his record covers which said he was a 'Jazz Sage' and quite what that means I don't know ..."

Keith Moon - "A flavour of chicken !!"

Spooky ... Shocked

Cheesy That is quite a compliment - I've always admired Kieth's style of drumming (I think my mind works the way he plays)
Have you seen the Who's segment on the Stones' Rock and Roll Circus DVD??
Amazing stuff!!

BTW - its Mose Allison - the song he was reffering to must have been Young Man Blues - great vocalist - favourite song - "Your Mind is On Vacation"
(i.e. ....your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime...if silence was golden, you couldn't even raise a dime...)
witty stuff - and he's a great pianist as well - If you're familiar with the band Savoy Brown, his vocal phrasing is similar to the song Needle and Spoon.
