Title: Tangerine Dream
Post by Voodoo OL on 1st May, 2007 at 3:07am
Hi All
One of those when you get home from the pub and chill with a favourite track moments (thanks Dee for Tangerine Dream's - Ricochet  moment).

Little known weird facts about me and Tangerine Dream.Heard TD for the first time when I was 14 and used to surf the radio stations, the usual Radio 1,Luxemburg and Radio Caroline. However came across American Forces in Europe radio station one night and they were playing Tangerine Dream's 'Rubycon' album.I was totally spellbound by hearing a synth/electronic keyboard album for the first time.

However back then just on pocket money rations from parents could'nt afford albums only 45 singles (aye it was hard in those days).Anyway eventually got a newspaper round and saved cash for albums. So one day we went to 'Valances Record Shop' (we always checked Valances due to the fact they had female shop assistants).

We got the assistants to play Rubycon in the shop while we were there. And laugh a elderly couple walked out the shop complaining that it was not music.

Here's the best bit though from surfing the radio when I was 14 I eventually went to see Tangerine Dream on the 'Cyclone Tour' (1978) and as young teenagers we got to the gig hours before the start and hung around Manchester Apollo and who did we meet but none other than Edgar Froese from Tangerine Dream.Said "Hello" and got his autograph (well when your only 17 what do you say to rock stars.LOL).Although now I realise I had met the grandfather  of electronic dance music.

So with any music you hear there's always your story to tell.

Cool

I remember stumbling across Rubicon at much the same age, so I saved my pocket money and got it. I played it every Saturday afternoon in my room along with Saucer full of secrets.... got wrecked/toasted/stoned to them then went into the living room with parents and laughed my head off watching Basil Brush.

Thanks for the memory.

Why is life so complicated now

Thanks for the excellent memories guys! Very interesting... the first time I heard TD Rubicon, it was on SA, so I've got nothing interesting to say except... SA is a great place to discover a handful of new and exciting artists!!!!!!!!!!

I prefer to call it "heightened awareness".

wow, great thread.
I'm listening to Tangerine dream since 65 years, one of my favorite groups. Last year I had the opportuinty to watch the live Gig on the Loreley open air night of the progs.
it was amazing, I'll never forget. But Edgar Froese seems to be turned int an old man. Isn't he??
here some pics enjoy them
